For exemplary Police service
My dad tills his garden
A poem I wrote for Dad’s birthday
“Your Age in pounds” my father did say
“Is what you will get, for your birthday.”
And so it was, the cheque was in the post
Each and every year
Cash had been tried- but that was lost,
And then the chorus I came to fear…
“Have you put your present in the bank?
You had better do it quickly,
It is your duty in way of thanks”
The exchanges got quite prickly.
But a precedent set is a custom kept
And in the very same spirit
Please from us a cheque accept
And make sure you cash it!
THE SUM OF SEVENTY TWO POUNDS
